By Car:If you’re planning a stay at Abererch Sands Holiday Centre on the stunning Llyn Peninsula, you’re in for a treat! This coastal holiday park not only offers direct beach access but is also surrounded by some of the most breathtaking landscapes and attractions in North Wales. Here are the top five things to do during your stay:
1. Explore the Coastal Town of Pwllheli
Just a short distance from Abererch Sands, Pwllheli is a bustling seaside town with a charming marina, sandy beaches, and plenty of shops and cafes. Known as the gateway to the Llyn Peninsula, Pwllheli offers a mix of traditional Welsh culture and modern leisure activities. Stroll along the promenade, visit the weekly market, or try your hand at water sports at the Pwllheli Sailing Club.
2. Discover the Beauty of Snowdonia National Park
Abererch Sands is perfectly positioned for exploring Snowdonia National Park, renowned for its rugged mountains, scenic trails, and outdoor adventure opportunities. Whether you’re hiking up Mount Snowdon, cycling through forested paths, or simply soaking in the panoramic views, Snowdonia’s breathtaking landscapes are not to be missed.
3. Ride the Cambrian Coast Railway
Step aboard the Cambrian Coast Railway and experience one of the most scenic train journeys in the UK. Departing from the nearby Abererch Sands halt, the railway travels along the stunning coastline, passing through picturesque villages like Criccieth, Porthmadog, and Harlech. It’s a great way to explore the region without the hassle of driving.
4. Visit Criccieth Castle
A short drive from the holiday park, Criccieth Castle offers a fascinating glimpse into Welsh history. Perched on a headland overlooking Tremadog Bay, the castle boasts stunning views and an intriguing past dating back to the 13th century. After exploring the ruins, enjoy an ice cream from the famous Cadwaladers Ice Cream Parlour nearby.
5. Enjoy a Day Out at Porthmadog
Porthmadog, known as the gateway to Snowdonia, is a vibrant harbour town just a short train ride or drive from Abererch Sands. Discover the famous Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways, browse local crafts in the quaint shops, or take a leisurely walk along the harbour. Don’t miss a visit to the nearby Portmeirion Village, a unique Italianate village and one of Wales' most iconic attractions.
A safe sandy beach runs the whole length of the site. All touring and tent pitches are a short walk away from the golden sand-dunes and the sea.
Pwllheli with shops, restaurants and pubs is only two miles away. The leisure centre and the marina are well worth a visit. There are plenty of interesting places to visit in the area including Zip World, Greenwood Forest Park, Criccieth Castle and Harlech Castle.

Super little camp, with a brilliant sandy beach which is accessed from the site via some beautiful dunes and footpath. During bad weather (often in Wales!) there is an indoor swimming pool, which proved ever so popular with our group. Small shop, launderette and washing facilities on site. Toilet and shower blocks are always kept very clean and tidy. One slight negative point is the fact that the Cambrian railway line runs alongside the camp, and the approach of trains are somewhat alarming initially, but after a couple of hours, we were immuned to the noise and did not detract in any way from our enjoyment. Our party did take the train to Pwllheli and had a great time. It is also possible to take the train to Porthmadog and Barmouth, although we didn't take advantage of this service during our stay. There are plenty of open spaces for kids. Generally a very laid-back and pleasant stay was had by all.
